What are wrinkles? They are just folds in your skin. Wrinkles appear as we age.
Our skin produces less collagen and elastin, two crucial ingredients for keeping the skin’s elasticity intact. As a result, our skin becomes thinner and less resistant to damage.
Think of all the factors that can damage your skin at that point. Dehydration, toxins, environmental exposure, and so on. All of those factors contribute to wrinkles appearing on your face.
What can you do? How to get rid of wrinkles? Is it possible? Or you should just accept them as part of aging?
Well, while wrinkles are a natural part of aging and getting older, there is no reason why you should not want to get rid of them. There are a couple of natural ways you can slow down the signs of aging.
Here are some.
Apply sunscreen
One of the biggest factors contributing to wrinkles is sun exposure. And the sooner you start applying sunscreen, the better. If you start wearing sunscreen and creams with SPF factor in your young age, say in your 20s, there will hardly be any wrinkles when you get older.
You need to apply sunscreen for a couple of reasons, and wrinkles are just one of them. Wearing sunscreen can also help prevent skin cancer. So, remember, sunscreen is not only for when you are heading to the beach. Apply it anytime you step out on the sun.
Quit smoking
Smoking is bad for so many reasons. One of those is smoking can cause your face to age prematurely. In other words, you can get wrinkles when you are just 30 years old.
Smoking affects our face and body in so many ways. Knowing the dangers and side effects of smoking, it is astonishing why so many people still smoke.
Well, try not to be one of those, and you will see the results on your face. Even if you smoke, quit smoking, and results will follow along. No to mention, quitting smoking will reduce the risk of cancer.
Limit sugar consumption
Sugar is a silent killer. That is the best way to describe this ingredient. We live in an era where more and more people are becoming aware of the dangers and risks of high sugar consumption. The medical community continues to show ways sugar is affecting your health.
We all know that high sugar consumption leads to obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, and other medical conditions. But sugar consumption can also affect your skin.
Consuming a lot of sugar can break down the collagen in your body, and of course, make you look older.
Keep your skin moist
Moisture and hydration are crucial for a healthy and radiant glow of your skin. You can hydrate your skin both from the inside out and topically. When it comes to providing moisture from the inside, that means drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day.
This helps to flush out toxins out of your body and promote healthy skin. You can add a slice of lemon to your water for even more detoxifying properties.
Natural moisturizers that help hydrate your skin when applied topically include olive oil, rose oil, shea butter, aloe vera, hemp oil, castor oil, and others. All of these natural moisturizers reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
Apply coconut oil
Coconut oil is one of the best things you can apply to your skin. Not only it helps add moisture to your skin, but coconut oil is also a natural emollient.
Coconut oil helps fill in the gaps in your epidermis, making your skin feel soft and silky. In the same time, coconut oil helps make the face look and appear fuller.
Change your sleeping position
You might be surprised, but the way and position you sleep can impact the number of wrinkles on your face.
How?
Well, it is all about compression. When you are pressing your face against the pillow, in the same way, every night, the compression will leave your skin weaker in some places. In those areas, wrinkles start appearing.
What can you do?
For starters, try sleeping on your back. Not only it helps reducing wrinkles, but sleeping on the back brings a number of health benefits. For starters, sleeping on your back is the best position for any back issues and pain.
Use essential oils
Essential oils are rich in antioxidants. Anyone who has ever read anything about wrinkles knows that antioxidants help slow down the aging process by fighting off free radicals and oxidative stress.
You can up your antioxidants consumption by consuming more berries and other foods rich in antioxidants.
But if you have wrinkles, a better and quicker way to reduce the appearance is to apply essential oils. You need just a few drops of essential oil and carrier oil.
Essential oils that are high in antioxidants include lavender, basil, chamomile, eucalyptus, cinnamon, thyme, clove, juniper, cumin, and coriander.
Apply some face masks
There are a number of face masks that are designed to help fight off wrinkles. Being that we emphasize natural ingredients, we suggest trying some made with ingredients from your kitchen.
These masks help infuse your skin with many essential vitamins and nutrients.
Here are a couple of ideas:
- 1 egg white, a teaspoon of lemon juice, and half a teaspoon of honey
- 2 tablespoons of oats, half an avocado, and half a cup of yogurt
- 1 tablespoon of honey, half a cup of Greek yogurt, and a tablespoon of ground flaxseeds
- ½ ripe banana, 1 tablespoon water, and 1 tablespoon of honey
For all of these masks, you need to mix the ingredients, apply to your face, leave the mask for 15 minutes, and then rinse off.
Lemon balm leaf tea
In the past few years, one holistic strategy to get rid of wrinkles that is gaining popularity is lemon balm leaf tea. And all you have to do is drink the tea on a daily basis. Studies have found out that the tea contains ingredients that make your skin more elastic and help with tissue damage.
Exercises for wrinkles
Exercising is a great way to keep your body in shape. And that applies to your face as well. Doing a couple of targeted exercises can vastly reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
Here are a couple of ideas:
- Place your index fingers on the outside of the eye, middle finger in the center of eyebrows, and push up gently and look down. Squeeze your eyes and then release by the opening. This exercise works the muscles around your eyeballs
- For the lower eyelids, put your index fingers on the outside corners of the eyes, and then the middle fingers on the inside corners. Press gently, and while keeping the fingers in place, close your eyes and look up. Open your eyes and repeat the movement
- To improve the strength of the muscles around your lips, make a V-shape with your thumb and fingers at the upper corners of the mouth. Make the same shape with your second hand, and place it above the first hand. Gently press your fingers and try to force a smile against them
Bonus: Wash your face on a regular basis
The most underrated aspect of getting rid of wrinkles is everyday care of your face. Many people forget to wash their face on a regular basis.
But it takes only 1 to 3 minutes to wash your face at night. Do not leave makeup overnight, as your skin will absorb all the chemicals in it.
Wash your face at least two times per day, once in the morning to freshen up, and once in the evening to remove any dirt and buildup.
