Introducing the Lash Lift

Move over mascara and eyelash curlers…introducing the lash lift. This is the latest procedure to add into our beauty regimes and could be life changing.

No more mascara, eyelash curlers or even the tedious eyelash extension treatments! The lash lift will give volume and a fuller look, and if you add in a tint at the same time, you have long, voluminous, and deeply coloured lashes all in one.

What is a lash lift?

A lash lift is basically a perm on your eye lashes that simply lifts and alters the shape of the lashes. It mimics the effect of an eyelash curler. It involves boosting and lifting every single lash. It enhances the natural lash, bending them upwards and making them longer and leaving your eyes more open and bright. Some people are reporting achieving much fuller eyelashes than they have ever been able to achieve with mascara.

How does it work?

Specially trained technicians will glue a small plastic rod to the eye lid and then curl the eyelashes around the rod using a special chemical solution. The first solution will be applied for 10 minutes and then a second solution is applied for another 10 minutes. Different rods are used for different levels of volume or curl.

How long does it take and how long does it last?

The lash lift and tint should take around 45 minutes to an hour and will last around six to eight weeks, depending on the lash re-growth cycle.

What preparation do you need to undertake?

Beauty experts recommend using an eyelash serum to help condition the lashes for a couple of weeks before the treatment. This will mean the lashes are healthy and in the nest condition ahead of the treatment. You must also make sure you remove any eye make up before the procedure.

Is it dangerous?

Chemicals are used in this procedure and they are being used in a very sensitive part of the body – the eyes. If the chemical does get into the eye then it could create a reaction or cause damage. This is why you need to make sure you are using a trained, qualified and certified professional to carry out the treatment.

Will it damage my lashes?

The lift can actually help your lashes. Lash curlers and removing mascara every night can take its toll on lashes and cause them to snap or fall off. Having the lash lift will mean there is no need to use mascara or lash curlers and allow the lashes to grow long and strong.

What to do after the treatment?

It is important that you don’t mess with your lashes, don’t apply any make up, lotion, serum or get them wet for at least 24 hours after the procedure if you want to get the maximum benefit. And try not to sleep on them on the night you have the treatment if at all possible. Some beauty therapists recommend using coconut to keep your lashes healthy after the lift.

How much does it cost?

Because lash lifting lasts such a long time and you don’t need to use mascara, lash lifts are very cost effective. A lash lift will probably cost between $50 and $100 and will last for eight to 12 weeks.

Will it definitely work?

The only way it won’t work if it is not applied correctly by the beauty technician, this is why it is essential to make sure you are being looked after by a trained and certified professional. Check out the technician’s credentials before you have the treatment. The lotion needs to be applied to the bottom of the lash. It must not be applied to the top of the lash so not to damage them. The timing is also key and leaving the solutions on for too long will mean overprocessing.

Lashes will never straighten. Old lashes will eventually fall out and new ones with grow through.

Even if you have short or flat lashes, you should notice a big difference.

What is the difference between a lash lift and an eyelash extension?

Eyelash extensions are a popular way to get a fuller eyelash for many and will last four to six weeks. The beauty therapist applies between 80 to 140 individual synthetic eyelashes to each eye using glue. Extensions do give people a more dramatic look around their eyes, but it can look quite fake. The lash lift is a quicker treatment, is far less maintenance and lasts several weeks longer. It also gives people a more natural look, while still having an impact. If you combine the lash lift with a tint, then you have longer, fuller and darker eyelashes.

Will my lashes go back to normal after the lash lift?

Your eyelashes should go back to normal around two to two and a half months after the lash lift, but it is recommended that for the continued full effect to repeat the treatment every six to eight weeks, depending on your lash re-growth cycle.

Who has the lash lift?

A more natural and less heavy make up look is all the rage right now and many celebrities are opting for lash lifts instead of heavy mascara looks to give them a less made up image. Pretty Woman star Julia Roberts and supermodels Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell are both thought to have used a lash lifts. And it is rumoured that the Jenner-Kardashian beauty team are also big fans of the lash lift.

Why should I choose a lash lift?

Lash lifts are hassle free, quick to apply and easy to maintain. You don’t need to wear mascara at all if you don’t want to. They give a fuller look, but more natural than lash extensions. They are fantastic for sports people or if you are going on holiday and don’t want to worry about applying mascara. And it means you don’t have to worry about your mascara running in the heat, sweat, the sea or the pool.
