Making Time for a Fitness Routine

One of the biggest hurdles to getting into an exercise routine and making it work is finding the time for it. There is simply so much to do, and if you are working out at home, you probably are very aware of all that is left to do around the house, like chores, tidying up and various responsibilities that normally keep you from exercising. If that is the case, then here are some tips to make more time in your day for staying fit and healthy.

  1. Create Exercise Opportunities

If you are serious about working out regularly, then you need to get into an exercise mentality. Look for ways that you can get more physically out of what you do and try to stop taking shortcuts. Instead of taking the elevator, you can walk up the stairs. Instead of taking the bus a few blocks, you can walk that space. As you carry your groceries inside the house, you can treat the bags like weights and pump them. These are just a few suggestions of ways you can find exercising opportunities in everyday life.

  1. Split Up the Housecleaning

You don’t have to do all the housecleaning on your own. When you put that entire burden on yourself, you leave little time for the things you want to do and for your own health. Instead, try to divide responsibilities among yourself and others in the house, even if it means giving your spouse or children a few chores each week. It doesn’t have to be a lot, but getting them to do some of the work gives you the free time you need to take care of yourself.

Another way to help alleviate some of the workload that housecleaning creates is to hire someone to do housecleaning for you. You can get a professional service to come to your home every so often and handle some of the cleaning suggests Izzy from Calgary House Cleaning, and that can create some extra time for you to get in your exercise routine for the week.

  1. Watch TV while You Work Out

You probably have a TV habit that’s hard to break, and while you may want to do more exercise, you don’t want to miss out on the TV you care about. You don’t have to make it an either/or situation, though. You can set up your TV show at the gym by using your smartphone or a tablet. You can use the treadmill while watching your favorite shows or work out in front of the TV while a show is running.

  1. Change Up the Sleep Schedule

Most of us realize that we won’t do much working out when it is late at night, so staying up later to work out isn’t an option, in most cases. Instead, you can wake up earlier, getting your day started an hour or a half hour sooner. Take that time to get in a quick workout, and you will be amazed at how much of a difference it makes after the first week or two.
